Ravi Bajaj can count himself among the founders one of India’s oldest fashion labels and celebrated 25 years of his association with the world of fashion in style, with model-turned actress Sarah Jane-Dias as a special guest.
Organized by Chivas Studio, the celebrations were a high-end affair. The designer feels he has come a long way in 25 years. Known for his elegant and classy designs, Bajaj played a perfect host to the candle lit evening.
The event included a photo collage presentation of his professional journey from the time he started his own label in the capital in 1987 by actress Sarah-Jane Dias clad in a glitzy Bajaj trademark monochrome sari.
A hint of Bollywood glamor was added with the presence of actress Sara Jane-Dias, who flaunted a black and white sari exclusively created by the designer.
It is not sure how many people know the story of Ravi Bajaj as a young Sikh who wanted to become a fashion designer in the early 1980s. He went abroad to study fashion, with the retirement fund of a Canadian missionary, who was his god mother. He returned to India in 1986 and started his own eponymous fashion label in 1987.
Ordered clothes were rare then and this loom invited society’s awareness, earning him the title of “Armani of India” in the 90s.
Along with family, the candle-lit party brought together a tight circle of capital socialites and his closest friends in fashion, including designers Suneet Varma, Ashish N Soni, Payal Jain and Sanchita, Kalyani Chawla, Ramola Bachchan, and Sunil Sethi.
Bajaj also showcased a special anniversary fashion collection. There was a short fashion show with Sarah Jane-Dias as a guest, after which Ravi was called on stage, and a short audio-visual of Ravi during the earlier days was shown – and everybody gasped at a pagri-tied Ravi’s picture. He told everyone how it was his dad who pushed him to become a designer.
